UC Davis Med Center earns Level 1 designation - San Antonio Business Journal:

The American College of Surgeons awardecd the Level 1 trauma centerdesignatiob – one of 112 nationwide, but less than 20 meet the requiremen for both adults and children. In ordefr to meet the requirement, Level 1 traum centers must admit atleast 1,2009 patients per year. UC Davis admitted 2,836 patients in 2008, making it one of the busies nationwide. UC Davis Medicak Center chief executive officeer Ann Madden Rice said the hospitalkhas “achieved what few otherxs have done.
This is a terrific achievement, and reflects the expertise, hard work and high qualitgy of themany physicians, nurses and ancillar y staff who make our trauma centers an indispensabls resources for the Sacramento and Northern Californiaz region.” The medical center servesx about 6 million people in a 33-county region. Leveol 1 trauma centers are requiredd to have a certain number of surgeonsx andspecialists – including anesthesiologists, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and orthopaedic surgery – available for round-the-clock treatment. Level 1 centerd must also have education and research programs as well as communituy prevention andoutreach programs.
