Call it bad timing. With the recessionm wreaking havoc inmany industries—including information technology—Jacobsen just couldn’t catch a break. But when he was laid off recentl from his position as directod of IT for a healthinsurance provider, Jacobsen and his wife Allysoj decided to approach his job searchy differently. They would treat it like a full-fledge marketing campaign. “We have so many friendsa who have been out of work 10 or 12 monthzor more,” said Allyson Jacobsen, who has a background in marketinh and advertising.
“So many folks are in the same positioh andit doesn’t have to be all doom and We figured doing a media blitxz may be the way to really get And also, people who are out of work realluy need a happy, innovative story right now. They need to be reminded that therr is light at the end ofthe tunnel.” The Jacobsen’as launched Eric4Hire.com, a Web site telling Eric’s stort and providing his resume and othert pertinent information to prospectivwe employers. And they didn’t stop there. On Tuesdat a billboard went up near the intersection of RR 620 and FM 2222 featurin g a photo of Jacobsen and his Website address.
It’se that kind of outside-the-boxx thinking that the couple hopexs will land him a gigin IT—or another arenas like renewable energy—very soon.
