The foundation’s Development Education Initiativeawarded $16.5 million to Connecticut, Florida, Texas and Virginia, as well as communityg colleges in each state. A community colleged in North Carolina also received The initiative seeks to support programs that help studentzs enrolled in remedialprograms — so-called refresher coursess for students who are not up to grade levell in a given subject. The goal is to improve classroo m performance so students can go on to take advancede courses and eventually graduate with a degredor certificate.
The state of Ohio was awardex $300,000 over a three-year perioc to develop a new performance-based funding syste m that rewards community colleges for helpingg students complete remedialand college-level courses. The foundation also said it’sx awarding $743,000 over three years to each of the followintg fiveOhio schools: , , , and . The grantxs will support various state andcollege programs, includin g efforts to collect data and better track the performance of remediao students, the foundation said.
